About

With a background in Speech Pathology and photography, I have combined my passion for Health Science and expression through creativity to form a strengthened approach to my Art Therapy practise where photography also plays a role in working with clients.

My framework is person-centred, trauma-responsive, and strength-based in approach. At all times, I attend to duty of care and safety for my clients. In art, clients can lead the process or ask for structure as they find verbal and nonverbal ways to express themselves and gain insight through creativity. Clients often discover their authentic strengths and talents in a unique supportive space where silence is both containing and freeing.

I mostly work with children and youth who struggle with ongoing trauma or the aftermath of trauma (from being bullied to experiencing a death in the family or witnessing or directly experiencing cruelty). Patterns of adjustment are unique to each child’s situation – some over perform and some underperform or withdraw in school and home. I work to comprehend each child’s unique family and cultural history. While I bring awareness of diagnostic language, I prefer to map when and where children feel secure and when they feel insecure and afraid – rather than naming fear of leaving a parent as separation anxiety.

I love how Art Therapy offers pathways for clients to contain and widen their imaginations. Through different art mediums, we uncover responses to dreams, memories, sensations, feelings and relationships, while gaining insight on providing relief from daily life stressors and getting to experience unique and clever aspects of self.
